South Street Gallery

Representing artists painting in the representational tradition, we are committed to the advancement of developing artists as well as those with established reputations that have created an investment value in their work.  Our artists engage in the "en plein aire" or "alla prima" tradition characterized by a unique combination of fresh color, accurate values and inventive compositions derived from observation of the nature and the built environment.
As an added value to our clients, we also provide a custom picture framing service on premises with an expansive collection of the premier mouldings, including hard-wood frames from Colorado, as well as 22 karat gold and 12 karat white gold leaf frames, using the highest quality traditional materials and old world techniques by master craftsmen. Ornate frames are carved entirely by hand out of the finest kiln dried basswood.
The turnaround time for custom picture framing orders is typically 7 days or less. But without a question we will try to accommodate your needs and can work with you to achieve what you wish. We provide significant discounts on picture framing for Artists as well as for Interior Decorators.
Arthur T. Garrity of Hingham, a professional auctioneer and fine art appraiser, offers verbal appraisals at our Gallery. Etchings, prints or original oil or watercolor paintings may be submitted for review for a small fee: $15 per one appraisal, $25 for two appraisals, $33 for three appraisals. The proceeds are donated to local non-profit organizations. Hours for these appraisals are from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, usually every other month on a Saturday. There is a limit of three items per person per visit. We try to make appointments for people in order to avoid long wait. The next Art Appraisal Day will probably be in June 2018. Please, check back with us again.
We engage several professional art restorers who offer the highest quality of conservation and restoration services of oil paintings, paper artwork, as well as restoration of picture frames.
